Assumption procession in Marseille, August 15th 2012.

On August 15th and on my motorbike, leaving Marseille, I’ll be crossing the procession in the Panier neighbourhood, which every year carries the statue of the Virgin Mary through all its little streets. This fervor touches me. No cries of hate, no call to arms ; just an outpouring of love, a boundless need for benevolence. The prayer is a collective one, although in the midst of the throng, within each adoring gaze, I sense an intimate dream, a secret devotion, a burning passion akin to my own pagan prayers.

Leur ferveur me touche toujours.
