« The Leica M ? Just can’t make any sense of it”, wrote me a talented and much-published photographer who is a real pro with the most sophisticated digital SLRs. Would I ever dare to let on that I, with these cameras become computers offering a zillion knobs and functions, am not able to take the photo I want? Only three technical parameters come into play in a photograph : focus, aperture and shutter speed. No software program is going to call those shots for me.

Oserais-je lui dire que moi, c’est avec ces boîtiers devenus ordinateurs, aux mille boutons et fonctions, que je n’arrive pas à faire la photo que je veux ? Seuls trois paramètres techniques interviennent dans une photo : la mise-au-point, l’ouverture, la vitesse. Je ne laisse à aucun logiciel le soin d’en décider à ma place.
